HOLIDAY TRAVEL TIPS |
As we gear up for the holiday season, many of us will visit friends and family. Whether traveling by plane or car, I’d like to share some tips about how to avoid travel headaches and delays.
Air Travel
Please read the list below for tips on air travel:
- Do not carry-on dangerous items. Read the full list of prohibited items here.
- Dress the part. Do not wear large belt buckles, heavy jewelry or shoes that are difficult to remove. For a detailed list of problem-items, please click here. The TSA does not prohibit clothing based on religious or cultural needs.
- Pack liquids according to the 3-1-1 rule. Each passenger is permitted liquid items of three ounces or less, in one bag that is no larger than one quart. Learn more about the 3-1-1 rule here.
-
Bring correct identification. You need to show an acceptable form of identification at security checkpoints, such as a driver’s license or another government-issued photo ID, if traveling domestically, or your passport if traveling internationally.
- Plan ahead for medical disabilities. For travelers with medical conditions or disabilities, click here for more information on how to prepare for your flight.
- Check delays. Visit the FAA’s website to make sure that your flight is on schedule.
Road Travel
If you are traveling by car:
- Avoid weather related delays. Check www.weather.com to find the latest information about road conditions and weather in your area. Many accidents can be avoided by leaving plenty of time to make your trip.
- Be aware of traffic and road closures. Make sure that your route is open by visiting the Department of Transportation’s website.
- Be ready for emergencies. Cold weather produces adverse driving conditions, so make sure you’re prepared. Click here for information on how to winter-proof your vehicle.
