Debt Ceiling Debate

July 15, 2011
Dear Friends,

On Thursday, I engaged with over 13,500 constituents during my district-wide tele-townhall. For over an hour, we talked about a variety of issues, ranging from raising the debt ceiling and the impact of proposed Republican budget cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, to local issues such as charter schools, and community safety. While Members are debating about raising the debt ceiling in Washington, people all around the country are wondering if and how they will ever get a job. While our communities are struggling to make ends meet, the Republicans are gambling our country's financial security with plans to deepen their suffering. My Democratic colleagues and I will not stand for that.
