Our nation’s financial stability is on the line as we get closer to the August 2 deadline to raise the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling. Yet some Members in Congress have chosen to gamble America's financial future by refusing to lift the debt ceiling unless we cut Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid while they try to extend tax breaks to Big Oil and giant corporations. There are too many Americans still struggling with the effects of the recession. We can't take away programs that millions depend on. This is not just a Democratic or a Republican issue but a moral issue. We have an obligation to help the vulnerable among us. Watch me speak on the floor:
