PROTECTING OUR EARTH
April 22, 2011
Dear Friends,
As we mark Earth Day today and reflect on the importance of protecting our environment, we must not forget the BP Oil Spill which was the greatest environmental disaster the United States has ever faced. It cost both lives and jobs for Gulf Coast residents. Our nation must act on the lessons learned from the spill to invest in clean and alternative sources of energy, as well as mitigate the damage done by threats to our environment. It will be important not just for stimulating job creation, but for preventing the future loss of life and livelihood due to environmental crises.

EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES
While we have made great strides, the struggle to protect our environment continues. This Earth Day, here are things that you can do to help protect the environment:
- R-E-C-Y-C-L-E, Recycle! To find your nearest recycling center, go here.
- Plant a tree. You don’t even have to do any digging! The Earth Day Network takes donations to plant trees, priced at $1 per plant.
- Ditch the rush hour commute. Try biking or walking to work if you can. This can save you money on gas, and it’s good exercise.
- Reduce your carbon footprint. Determine your footprint with the Conservation Fund’s Go Zero Calculator and find ways to reduce your impact on the environment.
