Rangel Report: Pres. Obama vs. Ryan Budget FY13

April 20, 2012
Dear Friends,

Tuesday was Tax Day, and we should use this occasion to take a serious look at where our tax dollars are going. The Republicans have made it clear that they want to eliminate the social safety net programs we depend on--such as Medicare, Medicaid, and food assistance--and funnel them to Wall Street, Big Oil and the wealthiest Americans. They have opposed the "Buffett Rule," which guarantees that millionaires and billionaires do not pay a lower tax rate than average Americans, and supported a $46 billion tax giveaway to the wealthy. These measures contradict the vision that my Democratic Colleagues and I have of America. We believe the top 1% of earners should pay their fair share, and that all Americans should play by the same rules. Our nation protects its most vulnerable citizens, and does not ask them to pay for tax giveaways to the rich and powerful. I hope you share this vision of America, and I encourage you to visit my Facebook page at facebook.com/cbrangel and tell me how you think your tax dollars should be spent to ensure that America will always be the land of opportunity.
