DO WE NEED A DRAFT?

March 18, 2011
Dear Friends,

This Saturday marks the 8th Anniversary of the Iraq War. On Thursday, I reintroduced the Universal National Service Act. By requiring 30 million people in the United States between the ages of 18 and 25 to perform two years of national service in either the armed services or in civilian life, the bill would make America both stronger militarily and here at home in our schools, airports, hospitals, and communities. The question of whether we need a draft will always be important as long as this country is placing thousands of its young men and women in harm's way. But now and in the future, we need to ensure that service and duty to our great nation is an honor that is shared by all throughout the country.

Rangel Encourages Nationwide First-Aid Training
"Having CPR and First Aid training is such a vital skill for people to possess. We never hope that anyone has to be put in the situation where they are forced to action, but in those cases, as was the case during January's tragic shooting, the value of those skills can not be overstated," said Rangel.…more
