Throughout America’s history, our veterans have fought to protect the liberties that we hold dear. Every year, on the anniversary of the end of World War I, we take time as a nation to commemorate the sacrifices of our troops. For more ways to support veterans at any time of the year, you can:
  • Volunteer to help veterans. Put your unique talents to work by volunteering at a local Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
  • Display the American flag. Show your national pride and display our nation’s flag in front of your home. To find proper ways to display the flag, click here. To order an American flag that has been flown at the U.S. Capitol, please contact my office.
  • Give to soldiers currently serving. Organize friends and family to send care packages and letters to Americans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The new Post 9-11 GI Bill, which took effect last August, restores the promise of a full, four-year college education, allowing up to 2 million veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts to be part of a new American economic recovery, just like after World War II. Additionally, Congress has extended these college benefits to all children of fallen service members since 9-11-01.

I want to extend my deepest thanks to all who have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces. If you or your family has any questions about veterans’ issues, please contact my office. My office frequently helps constituents with VA benefits, TriCare, military records and obtaining medals.

Ed with Army Sgt. Daniel Clark & Family
Ed,

I am grateful to you for assisting me in securing a humanitarian reassignment from my duty station in Iraq to be with my wife, Tara, during her medical emergency. You and your staff helped me to be with my son and my ailing wife during her time of need. We are finally together as a family at Fort Stewart, and her medical condition is improving. This reunion would not have been possible without the intervention of you and your staff. Thank you Ed.

Sincerely,
Army Staff Sergeant Daniel Clark

Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay for Our Military
NEW Deadline is approaching for claims to be submitted

Military personnel who have served under the Stop Loss status are eligible for $500/month payments. However, there is a December 3rd claim deadline. Eligible personnel can go to www.defense.gov/stoploss for more information, or to submit a claim. If you or someone you know is eligible for this important benefit please pass this information on to them.

Stop Loss Background:
  • The 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act authorized Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP) of $500 per month/partial month to Service members serving in Stop Loss status.
  • Service members, veterans, and beneficiaries of Service members whose service was involuntarily extended under Stop Loss between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009 are eligible for RSLSP.
  • The Act appropriated approximately $534M, and Service members/veterans have until December 3, 2010 to submit claims. The average benefit is $3,800.
  • The Department of Defense estimates that 145,400 personnel are eligible, and the Services have paid out 67,000 claims for a total of $251M.

Government in the Grocery
Discuss the Issues with Ed

To discuss taxes, the economy or any issue important to you, please attend my next Government in the Grocery. This is a program where my staff and I go to grocery stores throughout the district and talk with constituents one-on-one. Not only does this give me an opportunity to hear directly from my constituents but it helps me to better represent you in Washington DC. Please note constituents are given priority and due to time constraints groups or individuals are limited to approximately five minute intervals.
