Medicare Announcement and Workshop
Last week it was announced Medicare Part B premiums for 2012 will be $99.90, approximately $7 lower than expected. And, the Part B deductible will decrease by $22. Medicare beneficiaries will receive free preventative services and a 50 percent discount on covered prescription drugs when they enter the prescription drug "donut hole."
Medicare is currently in an open enrollment period, but it ends on December 7, 2011. Whether you are a current Medicare recipient or not, you can still find, examine and determine the best Medicare plan to serve your needs.
I encourage you to stop by my Medicare workshop on Tuesday, November 8 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Members of my staff, Medicare professionals, and counselors from St. Anthony's Health Passport Services will be able to answer questions and assist in finding the right Medicare plan for you. Be sure to bring your prescriptions and current Medicare plan to the workshop. The workshop will be at the Belmar Library at 555 South Allison Parkway in Lakewood. For more information on Medicare plans, you can visit www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan.
Also, beginning in January 2012, Social Security recipients will see their first Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) in three years. This COLA will help protect thousands of senior citizens and disabled individuals from the rising costs of basic necessities. Social Security and Medicare are promises we made to our seniors, and I am committed to protecting these programs and ensuring we keep our promises.
Iwo Jima Veterans Oral History Film Premiere
Last March, my office helped 10 Colorado WWII Veterans make a historic return to Iwo Jima for the 65th Anniversary ceremony of that bloody battle. As part of the Library of Congress Veterans Oral History Project, our office once again worked with the Community College of Aurora film students to record these Veterans' stories and history. Please join me for the premier of "Operation Detachment -- Stories from Iwo Jima".

Constituent Success Story
My office is here to help the hard working people of the 7th Congressional District cut through some of the red tape when dealing with a government agency. If you are having an issue with a federal agency please call my office – my staff and I will always do our best to help. I'm proud my office was able to help Jill get her First Time Home Buyers Tax Credit, and fix her issue with the IRS.
"I have to thank everyone within the Tax Advocate Department and Ed Perlmutter's office because without their determination and persistence I wouldn't have been able to get my first time home buyers credit... THANK YOU!" |
