Job Creation Survey

Job creation is my number one priority in Congress. Hearing from you helps me to better represent the hard working people of the 7th Congressional District.

What is the best way to spur job creation?

A little over a week ago the President signed into law the Small Business Jobs Act. Since then over 2,000 small businesses that were waiting for a Small Business Administration (SBA) loan have received them – including 29 small businesses in Colorado. During my Main Street tours, Government in the Grocery and other events I heard small business owners and employees talk about the need to access credit and additional capital to buy inventory or expand. I am proud to have supported the Small Business Jobs Act that has already positively impacted Colorado.

Ed,

Thank you for your help with obtaining my passport. Later this month I am going to Berlin, Germany to be one of twelve military personnel honored by the German government for our service. Without your help in getting my passport, I would not have been able to make this trip.

NASA Authorization Passes Congress

Last week a bipartisan majority of Congress passed S. 3729 – The NASA Authorization Act of 2010 – which authorizes NASA funding for fiscal years 2011 to 2013 and now goes to the President’s desk. This bill is a victory for those who fought to save the Orion manned space flight project which will replace the Space Shuttle. Last February the President’s budget called for cancelling the Orion project which would have led to the loss of up to 4,000 high-paying Colorado jobs. I am proud to have worked with Republicans and Democrats from across the country to help preserve these jobs and maintain America’s technological edge. I look forward to continuing to work to preserve Colorado’s leadership role as NASA moves forward in the 21st century.

Improved Pell Grant Process Helping Coloradans

Making sure the next generation of leaders has the opportunity to go to college and prepare themselves for the 21st century workforce has been a priority for this Congress. I am proud to announce Pell Grant awards have reached an all time high. For the current academic year, the Pell Grant scholarship increased to 5,550 dollars, and beginning in 2013 the maximum scholarship will increase with the cost of inflation by linking the scholarship to the Consumer Price Index. Approximately 8 million U.S. students rely on the Pell Grant scholarship each year to help pay for college.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, in the 7th Congressional District in the 2008/09 school year over 12,000 students received Pell Grants totaling almost 34 million dollars. It is estimated for the 2009/10 school year over 17,000 students received over 60 million dollars in grants. Education is the foundation for building a strong economy and a prosperous middle-class. If you have any Pell Grant questions please do not hesitate to contact my office.
