Enjoy the 4th of July Holiday
I want to wish you and your family a happy and safe 4th of July weekend. As we celebrate our nation’s independence we should also reflect on those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and way of life. On July 4th, I am proud to be participating in the Event Kickoff and the Opening Ceremonies for the 30th annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games, hosted for the first time in Denver.
This event is the largest annual wheelchair sports competition in the world, and offers 17 different sports to veterans who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injuries, amputations and neurological diseases. The Games promote rehabilitation through rigorous competition in such events as basketball, rugby, softball, handcycling and others. A special “Kids Day” program allows children with disabilities to meet the athletes and be introduced to wheelchair sports.
Please come out and support these dedicated and inspirational athletes. Click here for more information about the Games and for event times and locations.
Wall St. Reform Conference Report Passes House
Yesterday, the House passed the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act Conference Report. This bill will protect taxpayers and consumers by bringing accountability to Wall Street and big banks and end the risky practices resulting in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, while preventing future bailouts of large financial institutions. I was also successful in including a provision to take a necessary closer look at High Frequency Trading which played a role in the May 6, 2010 “Flash Crash”, so we can ensure adequate oversight of this kind of trading.

Government in the Grocery
Discuss the Issues with Ed
Ed discussing small business lending issues with David Allen, State Senator Evie Hudak and staff. |
To discuss taxes, the economy or any issue important to you, please attend my next Government in the Grocery. This is a program where my staff and I go to grocery stores throughout the district and talk with constituents one-on-one. Not only does this give me an opportunity to hear directly from my constituents but it helps me to better represent you in Washington DC. Please note constituents are given priority and due to time constraints groups or individuals are limited to approximately five minute intervals.
The next Government in the Grocery is scheduled for Saturday, July 10th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the location TBD. Please check back on my Schedule of Events to confirm the exact location.
Congressional Charity Baseball Game
Ed with other members of Congress wearing an Arvada West High School baseball jersey |
Every year since 1909, members of Congress get together to compete and raise money for Washington D.C. charities. Events like this not only help a good cause but promote camaraderie and physical fitness. Every year I wear a baseball jersey from one of the high schools in the 7th Congressional District. This year I was proud to wear the jersey of the Arvada West High School baseball team. Click here for more information about the history of the Congressional Baseball Game.
