Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to tour Vestas' new nacelle manufacturing plant in Brighton. This high tech factory employs 300 people and contracts with 16 Colorado small businesses to supply various parts and services. Diversifying America's energy portfolio creates jobs and reduces our dependence on foreign oil. Manufacturing wind turbines, solar panels and technologies to use fossil fuels more efficiently creates jobs here in America that can't be outsourced. I was so impressed by the efficiency and professionalism of the hard working staff at this world class facility.

I asked why Vestas invested almost a billion dollars to make Colorado their manufacturing headquarters in North America. They told me they moved here because Coloradans have the right attitude, behavior and willingness to work. Combined with our outstanding research institutions, educated workforce, beautiful climate and lifestyle - Vestas chose to invest in Colorado.

What is a nacelle?

The nacelle sits atop the tower and contains the gear box, low- and high-speed shafts, generator, controller, and brake. Want to learn more about how a wind turbine works? Visit this informative website from the Department of Energy to find out how a wind turbine creates energy.

Are You Unemployed or Underemployed and Facing Foreclosure?

If so, an important foreclosure assistance program has recently been rolled out by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This new program is called the Emergency Homeowners' Loan Program (EHLP) and was created as part of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act to provide emergency mortgage assistance to homeowners who are temporarily and involuntarily unemployed or underemployed due to the economy or a medical condition and are at risk of foreclosure.

There is a brief window to apply for this program (June 20, 2011 through July 22, 2011) so check here to see if you are eligible and start the paperwork and registration process.
