Final Funding for VA Hospital in Aurora Passes House

This week I voted to support our troops and veterans by ensuring critical funding for veterans health services and the construction of key facilities for our national security operations. As part of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act passed by the House this week, I am proud to have helped secure the remaining $42 million for construction of the new VA Medical Center to be built at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora. The design phase is complete, the contractors are hired and initial construction is underway on the $800 million project which will be the largest construction project in Colorado and will employ approximately 10,000 workers over the life of the project.

Additionally, this bill includes $70 million for construction of the Mountainview facility at Buckley Air Force Base. This facility will house many of our country's national security operations and will employ approximately 300 construction workers. The bill will now go to the Senate for consideration and final passage.
Important Colorado Foreclosure Information

Recently, the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) and 13 nonprofit housing counseling partners announced that Colorado was awarded a $1.2 million grant from NeighborWorks America to continue foreclosure prevention efforts across the state in 2011. A portion of the grant proceeds will also support the Colorado Foreclosure Hotline, 1-877-601-HOPE.

CHFA Housing counselors assist homeowners and work with their lender about a mortgage loan in default or at-risk of foreclosure and work with locally-based housing counselors because they are more likely to understand the local real estate market, and any unique grants or financing programs available through local community organizations.
