Please Take a Moment
to Fill Out an Economic Priorities Survey

Hearing from you helps me to better fight for the priorities of the hard working people of the 7th Congressional District. The economy is starting to turn around but I know many people and small businesses are still hurting. This is why your feedback is so important.

What do you think should be Congress’ top economic priority in 2010?

In an effort to help the Colorado small business community as much as possible, I launched the Small Business Resource Center on my website. Small businesses are the engine that drives our economy by creating and maintaining long-term, good paying jobs. In this resource center, business owners and entrepreneurs will have information available to find loans, maximize available tax benefits, learn about the tax credits available under the new health insurance reform legislation and also share with me the issues you face and ideas you may have to promote small business growth.
Governor’s Energy Office (GEO)
Appliance Rebate Program Began This Week.
Save Money Now, Save Money on Your Utility Bills

This week the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) started offering rebates for various energy upgrades on April 19th as part of the state's “Recharge Colorado” campaign. Recharge Colorado creates a one-stop clearinghouse of information about products, rebates, tax breaks and other benefits offered by the GEO, utilities and local governments.

  • Click here - or call 1-800-462-0184 where you can reserve a rebate. Please note certain rebates have already run out.
  • For more detailed information about the Recharge Colorado rebates visit the GEO website at www.colorado.gov/energy. Rebates include:
    • Replacement appliance rebates for clothes washers, refrigerators and dishwashers;
    • Home upgrade rebates such as insulation, furnaces and water heaters
    • Solar electric, solar hot water and small wind rebates.
The GEO and its partners are providing roughly $18 million worth of rebates for Colorado with this program. The money is expected to provide approximately 75,000 rebates, including about 16,000 rebates for ENERGY STAR refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers. Rebates may run out quickly, but if you purchase an energy-efficient product or renewable energy system for your home, you may be eligible for Federal Tax Credits for Consumer Energy Efficiency. This tax credit covers 30% of the cost up to $1,500 and does not expire until December 31, 2010. The credit must be applied to an existing home which must be your principle residence. (New construction and rentals do not qualify.) To learn more about the tax credits visit http://www.energystar.gov/.

Groundbreaking Event for I-225 & Colfax Interchange

Ed (who helped secure project funding) along with City of Aurora,
Arapahoe County & UCH officials breaking ground.

Getting funding for this project and getting it moving is one of my top priorities in Congress. The interchange will ease traffic congestion, and provide critical access for the medical facilities including the University of Colorado Hospital, Children’s Hospital and ultimately the new VA Medical Center.

I am proud my office helped secure $14 million for construction of the new interchange through ARRA stimulus funds and appropriations. The total cost of the project is estimated at $43 million.

Additionally, an estimated 467 jobs total (92 solely from Phase II) will be generated as a result of this construction project. According to Aurora officials, when fully developed in 2018, the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora is expected to have 43,500 jobs generating $6.7 billion in economic activity annually.

University of Colorado Hospital
Wins Prestigious Nursing Award

UCH Nursing Staff React to Magnet Award Announcement.

Last month the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) was recognized for the third consecutive time with the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Award. Out of 6,000 hospitals nationwide only 351 have received this Award, and only 31 have been recognized three straight times for nursing excellence.

I would like to congratulate the University of Colorado Hospital and its amazing nursing staff for receiving the Magnet Recognition Award for the third consecutive time. This award is a testament to the hard working nursing staff, nurse educators and all of their employees for continuing to be a national leader in compassionate and innovative patient care.

Magnet Recognition is widely accepted as the gold standard for care, and hospitals with magnet designation often provide higher quality care and attract and keep the best and most educated nurses.
