I want to take this opportunity to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the day of remembrance dedicated to his civil rights legacy and national day of volunteerism in our communities. This year Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 16, and I encourage everyone to get involved in the many activities and opportunities to volunteer in our communities.

Dr. King led by example to make America a more inclusive and tolerant nation. By volunteering our time and energy in our neighborhoods, we can lead by example to strengthen our communities and make America a better place for our children. If you are looking for opportunities to serve please visit www.serve.gov. This website can help link you with organizations looking for volunteers, and if you represent a community volunteer group you can also use this website by listing your group or project as needing volunteers.

Telephone Town Hall Sign-Up

I hope you can participate in my upcoming Telephone Town Hall on Thursday, January 19. A Telephone Town Hall is an open forum for you to ask questions about issues important to you.

This Telephone Town Hall will be a "State of the District" where we will discuss what's going on in the 7th Congressional District and in Congress impacting the hard working people in our community. I will be answering questions focused on job growth, economic development, energy, updates on legislation and more.

Please sign up by 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18. To sign up, simply go to my website's Telephone Town Hall Registration page and enter your name, email address, zip code, and telephone number. On January 19, you will receive a call from me asking you to join our Telephone Town Hall at approximately 7 pm.

This is a program where I go to grocery stores throughout the district to talk one-on-one with constituents. I look forward to meeting with you to talk about whatever is on your mind. Government in the Grocery is about being available to listen to you in a less formal setting. This kind of access is essential to the fabric of our democracy. Please note that due to time constraints, constituents will be given priority and individuals and groups may be limited to approximately 5 minute intervals.

Constituent Success Story: Linda and Derek Lee

My office is here to help the hard working people of the 7th Congressional District cut through some of the red tape when dealing with a government agency. If you are having an issue with a federal agency, please call my office. My staff and I will always do our best to help. I'm proud my office was able to help Linda and Derek Lee get their appropriate Medicare benefits.

"I am most grateful to Congressman Perlmutter and his staff for all that they have done for me and for the peace of mind my wife has been given."
