Should Congress Raise the Debt Limit?

June 9, 2011

Dear Friends,

As a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, I continue to be concerned about spending and the national debt. The recent economic slowdown has led to sharply higher deficits in recent years, leading to a series of debt limit increases. U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has stated that Congress will need to raise the debt limit this summer so that it does not default on its obligations. If the U.S. cannot meet its obligations this could have serious repercussions all over the globe.
