I am writing to you to let you know that the Medicare Open Enrollment Period is coming to a close on December 7th. I also want to remind you that there is help available for Medicare beneficiaries to make sure they get the coverage that best meets their needs through the State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIP).

Many seniors question whether they have the best Medicare coverage, especially during the yearly open enrollment period. California offers the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) to provide free help for Medicare participants. This program helps families and their loved ones navigate the increasingly complex world of coverage options. I encourage Medicare beneficiaries to take advantage of this service to help find the right coverage for their prescriptions, resolve billing issues, and coordinate with federal agencies that can further assist them in finding care.

HICAP provides one-on-one counseling for Medicare participants. This personalized experience can give Medicare recipients greater access to services, which ensures they have coverage tailored to their needs. HICAP not only simplifies the process of choosing coverage, but it also has the potential to save participants from costly excess coverage.
