Dear Neighbor,

It has been another busy week in Washington. I wanted to touch base with you to highlight some of the things happening in Washington and our community that might be important to you

Creating Clean Energy Jobs in California

Earlier this month I introduced the American Microturbine Manufacturing and Clean Energy Deployment Act (H.R. 3394). This legislation builds on the great American tradition of innovation and manufacturing, creates new high-paying jobs, and helps promote investment in the clean energy economy and reduces air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

I toured Capstone Turbine Corporation’s facilities in Chatsworth, California, early this month.

Protecting Vital Programs for Working Class Californians

Last Friday I opposed the Balanced Budget Amendment proposed by the Republican majority in the House of Representatives. This legislation would have required a super majority of Congress to raise federal revenues, effectively making it nearly impossible to solve budget concerns. California has tried this flawed plan, and it simply does not work. Our state’s fiscal situation becomes increasingly difficult each year because of this super majority requirement.

I spoke out against the Balanced Budget Amendment last Friday on the Floor of the House of Representatives.

I agree we need to get the federal deficit under control, but we can’t make devastating and drastic cuts to vital programs that are essential to millions of Californians during these tough economic times.

Ensuring our Medication is Safe

As a mother, I want to know the medications my family is taking are authentic and, most importantly, safe. Last week, I joined colleagues from both sides of the aisle to introduce “ The Counterfeit Drug Penalty Enhancement Act.” This bill would increase penalties for the trafficking of counterfeit drugs to reflect the severity of the crime and the harm to the public. Most importantly, this legislation helps keep our families are safe from potentially dangerous products.

Giving Thanks

Many of us this week will be gathering around tables of Thanksgiving delights to enjoy time with our families and friends. We forget than there are millions among us who are struggling to make ends meet.

“Let us remember that, as much has been given us, much will be expected from us, and that true homage comes from the heart as well as from the lips, and shows itself in deeds.”

Theodore Roosevelt
26th President of the United States
There are a number of ways you can help this time of year. Visit Feeding America for a listing of local food banks. Whether you’re donating food or helping financially, local food banks are a great way to directly give back to our community.

As we gather together with our families and friends for Thanksgiving, I hope you will join me in giving thanks and remember to help those around us who may be struggling.

Thank you for taking the time to read the Latest from Linda. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your feedback or if I can ever be of assistance to you.

Wishing you and your family a very happy and safe Thanksgiving,
