Dear Neighbor,

This morning I was proud to attend the ‘Be a STAR’ Alliance Anti-Bullying Rally at Los Coyotes Middle School in La Mirada. I joined stars from the WWE and other entertainers in challenging students to stand up to bullies by treating their classmates with dignity and respect.

KCBS coverage of the anti-bullying rally at Los Coyotes Middle School.

Since coming to Congress, I have made providing students with safe schools a priority. Bullying directly interferes with student learning and threatens the safety and well-being of millions of students each year. Bullying is harmful and damaging behavior that we must take seriously.

Last year, I re-introduced the bipartisan Safe Schools Improvement Act to help create a safe learning environment in our nation’s schools. This bill would ban bullying and harassment in our schools. It would also ensure that schools protect targeted students so they are free to learn and fully realize their potential. You can read more about The Safe Schools Improvement Act here.

Schools must be safe—for everyone. You shouldn’t have to look over your shoulder all the time because you’re afraid of being beaten up. I will continue to work my hardest to make schools safe for all students.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. Please do not hesitate to contact me with your feedback or if I can ever be of assistance to you.

Sincerely,

Linda T. Sánchez
Member of Congress
